Our courses are mainly designed for students who have a short term study plan and are interested in exploring the beauty of Lijiang and North West Yunnan. We not only focus on Chinese language teaching, but also present a peaceful, relaxing and joyful atmosphere to our students. The courses are unique and tailored for students according to their plans and levels. The courses enable students to survive daily life in China by focusing on basic daily conversational situations such as living, working and traveling in China. Students will have a placement test when they enroll and we will offer suitable courses according to their specific situation and requirement. We offer Beginner Courses, Intermediate Courses, and Advanced Courses.

The beginner level includes two courses – Beginner I and Beginner II. These courses are suitable for students who have had no previous Mandarin instruction. Upon completion of the beginner courses, students will have a command of more than 1,000 basic words and 200 sentences. This will enable students to conduct and understand simple communication in daily life, such as, greetings, self introduction, shopping, taking taxi, making appointments, asking for help, ordering food, seeing doctors, booking tickets, communicating with housekeepers, etc.          More

The intermediate level includes two courses. These courses are suitable for students who have achieved beginner level or possess a vocabulary of approximately 1,000 words. The courses focus on topics concerning the expat experience in China, whether it be living, working or traveling. As a primary classroom activity, dialogue exercise will be conducted so as to enable students to master different expression within different situations. Upon completion of the courses, students should have a command of about 1,800 words, as well as the ability of speaking fluent Chinese in daily life using complex sentences.         More

The advanced course is suitable for students who have achieved intermediate level or possess a vocabulary of approximately 2,000 words. Courses focus on communication skills through discussion of current issues in society, for example: the economy, culture, and other facets of life in China. The texts are mainly selected from magazines, newspapers and Chinese literature. There will be a unique topic in each lesson, such as, “Knowing Yourself”, “Leisure and Entertainment”, or “Human beings and the natural science”, etc. Upon completion of the course, students should have a command of about 1,500 new words, including slang, phrases, and especially, understanding the way local people speak. In addition, students will acquire a better understanding of Chinese society and Culture and further perfect their language ability.       More

Getting to know the Chinese people is an integral part of this program, providing language and cultural interaction. SLC’s ideal location allows students to have opportunities to meet Chinese tourists from all over the country in beautiful scenic spots around Lijiang. A wide range of activities with Chinese native speakers throughout the program provides further opportunities for the immersion into the Chinese language and way of life.

Half day or full day or weekend tours around Lijiang, Shuhe, Yuhu Village (Jade Lake Village) or 3~5-day tour and studying in different areas such as Zhongdian (Shangri-la). Lijiang allows students to enjoy scenic landscapes and discover the beautiful diverse southwest Chinese culture.
